Food Minister and Dhaka City Awami League Joint
General Secretary Advocate Quamrul Islam said there would not be any unity with the patrons-stooges of militancy, BNP-Jamaat combine.
“Yes, we also want national unity against militancy. Unity against militancy should be there and we believe in this, but national unity can’t be and won’t be forged with those who are stooges, financiers, patrons and are directly involved in militancy,” he said this on Friday while replying to a recent proposal of BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for building a national unity to face militancy.
Quamrul Islam said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Dhaka Divisional unit of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion at Shilpakala Academy at Segunbagicha to felicitate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her being decorated with the United Nations highest award on environment affairs-“Champions of the Earth” and the “ICT Sustainable Development Award-2015”.
President of the organisation Maksudur Rahman presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City Awami League organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus, assistant secretary to Awami League sub-committee Advocate Balaram Poddar and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote central general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
Informing his audience that national unity has already been forged under the capable and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against militancy, Quamrul Islam said, “Excepting those patrons of militancy and those who are wearing the coats of democracy and peace, people irrespective of professions are united now against militancy.”
