Joynal Abedin Khan :
The law enforcers are yet to find any headway in the sensational disappearance case of BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin, though two months have already been elapsed in the meantime.
Family members of the victim expressed their suspicion whether Salahuddin was still alive or it was another case like the disappearance of another BNP leader M Ilias Ali.
Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed claimed that law enforcers used to contact them frequently after the incident happened but with
each passing day they seemed to be becoming nonchalant.
On April 20, following a writ petition by Hasina Ahmed, a High Court bench directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to continue the search effort for next six months and to submit a monthly report on the progress made.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister of Home, told the reporters recently that the law enforcers were still looking for Salahuddin and they would continue the drive.
When asked, SM Jahangir Alam Sarker, Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that they did not lack any sincerity to locate Salahuddin.
“High officials are aware about it and our effort to trace him is continuing,” he added.
On March 10, Salahuddin went missing from a house of Uttara area in the capital. His family members claimed that detective member of law enforcing agencies picked him up.
However, the law enforcement agencies including police, Crimes Investigation Department (CID) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have claimed ignorance of Salahuddin’s whereabouts.
Almost in the same way, on April 17, 2012, BNP Organising Secretary Ilias Ali, disappeared while he was on his way home. He is still missing.
