No talks, only exchange of greetings: Quader

General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Monday said, the Prime Minister wants to invite 75 political parties, which took part in pre-election talks, at Gano Bhaban just to exchange greetings, but not to hold any dialogue.
“We are not inviting anyone for a dialogue there. There will be no talks, but for exchange of greetings,” he said.
Obaidul Quader said this at a meeting of Dhaka City Unit AL on Monday, a day after he said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would invite the political parties at the Gano Bhaban for a dialogue.
The meeting was organised in the purview of the party’s celebration of its grand win. The AL will celebrate its landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary elections in Dhaka on January 19.
Meanwhile, responding to yesterday’s remarks Quader made, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Jatiya Oikyafront would decide whether it would sit for a fresh round of talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina once the agenda was set.
“The issue of scraping the election must have to be there as an agenda and then we will consider about the talks,” Fakhrul also spokesperson of the Oikyafront said while talking to reporters after offering prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.
Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister in another programme on Monday asked all concerned engineers to complete the repair work of roads and highways across the country before the rainy season begins.
Addressing a meeting at his ministry office in Dhaka earlier in the day, Quader also asked the engineers to ensure the quality of the repair work.
Chiefs of the ministry’s subordinate departments and ongoing development projects, and zonal chiefs of the Roads and Highways Department were present at the meeting.
He said, the drive to evict vegetable and stationery shops from the roads and highways have already been started and it will continue.
Apart from this, the drive to dismantle illegal structures on both sides of the roads and highways will be started, the minister said.
About the communication system in the hill districts, he said the road communication in the hill area will be smooth for the tourists.
