Hundreds of buyers, including low income group of people, are flocking to TCB’s trucks cell to buy commodities at lower prices in the capital city without maintaining physical distancing norms.
Though TCB’s products have brought some relief to the lower middle class of people, the ignorance to comply with physical distance may increase the risk of covid infection.
On Thursday, a huge number of buyers lined up in the city’s R.K Mission Road (Ittefaq Intersection) area around 5pm to buy TCB products.
On that day, crowds were found to buy TCB products without maintaining a safe distance.
There was no presence of consciousness among the buyers. Even a portion of people didn’t use masks.
TCB has been selling sugar, lentils, soybean oil, dates and onions at subsidized prices on the stalk of Ramzan since April 1.
To save cost, men and women were standing in separate lines to buy TCB products at reduced prices.
Safiqul Islam, owner of a small tea stall on the R.K Mission Road, said, we are compelled to stand by the TCB truck sale point as our business condition are not good due to lockdown.
A good crowd were also seen in city’s Badda area on Thursday. Hundreds of buyers also lined up in the area around 3pm to buy TCB sale products.
However, despite the fact that the number of corona diagnoses and deaths are increasing day by day in the country, but the buyers seem to have forgotten about social safety distance or compliance with hygiene rules while buying TCB products.
Earlier, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) announced a decision to increase the price of soybean oil by Tk 10 per litre from April 1.
With this, the institution increased the price of this essential product in two phases by a total of Tk 20 over the last two months. Two months ago, a litre of soybean oil could be bought from TCB for Tk 80 which rose to Tk 100. The price of sugar has also been increased by Tk Five per kg.
Earlier, TCB also increased the prices of lentils and onions.
