The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) has expressed surprise at Cricket Australia’s decision to delay its team’s test tour of Bangladesh showing excuses of a ‘potential security risk from militants’.
Following the latest development, Cricket Australia Security head Sean Carrol came to Bangladesh on Sunday to review the issue of their security concern and change their decision.
On Friday, the Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) issued the warning on its website saying that there was a potential security risk from militants in Bangladesh. After that, the Australian cricket team on Saturday delayed its planned departure to Bangladesh.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon on Sunday termed
the Australia’s security concern as baseless, expressing grave resentment and dissatisfaction.
Talking to journalists at his Secretariat office Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that postponement of Australian national cricket team’s test tour to Bangladesh is very unfortunate. “It is very unfortunate to all of us. We are surprised at Australia’s concern as there is no possibility of rise of militancy in Bangladesh,” he said.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal termed the Australia’s security concern that postponed its cricket team’s test tour to Bangladesh as baseless.
“An Australia’s intelligence agency report on security in Bangladesh is baseless. I talked to our country’s intelligence agencies over the issue. They ruled out the Australia’s intelligence agency report,” he told journalists at his Secretariat office. The home minister said Bangladesh is not a country like Afghanistan or Pakistan
“National cricket teams of Pakistan, India and South Africa visited our country recently. But there was no problem during their tour,” he said. Kamal assured the Australia Cricket Board of taking strict security measures so that there would be no problem.
“I hope that at last the Australia national cricket team will come to Bangladesh for playing cricket,” he said.
He hoped that the security experts of Australia who came here would review the issue of their security concern and change their decision. “There is no terrorism and extremism in Bangladesh. We have controlled the terrorism and extremism here. The peace-loving people of Bangladesh are very much conscious. They never accept the terrorism and extremism,” he added.
The home minister said, “The BCB President told me that the security experts of Australia want to review the issue of their security concern. I told him (BCB President) let them come we will provide them all out security meas
