Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Wednesday said there is no scope to reform the existing quota in civil service for the freedom fighters (FF).
“We believe that the concerned committee will not interfere in the existing 30 percent quota in civil service for the freedom fighters as the present government believes in the spirit of War of Liberation,” he said at a press briefing on quota-reform at the secretariat.
The minister said, “We want to assure the freedom fighters, their families and those who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War, that they need not to be worried over the issue as the government is respectful to the law and believes in the spirit of the Liberation War.”
Quoting a High Court verdict, Mozammel said that there is a provision to make recruitments based on merit if the freedom fighter quota is not filled. Yet, there is still an obligation to keep the 30 per cent quota for the freedom fighters, he added.
Chief Information Officer Kamrun Nahar was also present in the press briefing.
