BSS, Dhaka :
Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said there is no scope for holding of national polls before the year 2019.
“The next Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) polls will be held under the stewardship of the Prime Minister in accordance with the constitution. Take all out preparations to take part in the next parliament polls,” the minister said pointing at the BNP.
Quamrul Islam said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a public rally held in front of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
Bangshal Thana Awami League (AL) organised the public rally marking the National Mourning Day with Dhaka City AL leader Zashim Uddin Sabuj in the chair.
Acting president of Dhaka City AL MA Aziz, organising secretary Sayeed Khokon and office secretary Shahidul Islam Milon also spoke at the rally, among others.
Quamrul Islam said, “The next parliament polls will be held in 2019 under an election-time government to be headed by the Prime Minister.
BNP will have to participate in that election. Otherwise, they (BNP) will have no option left.”
Criticising BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for celebrating her fake birthday on the national mourning day on August 15, the minister said, “It’s a bad taste and unfortunate that Begum Khaleda Zia celebrates her fake birthday with pomp by cutting a cake on the day the nation mourns the gruesome assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.”
The Awami League leader said, “Had the killing attempt on Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2014 been successful, Tarique Rahman would have been expressed his delight in the identical manner that of her mother.”
