Joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif yesterday said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia can’t escape trial by resorting to falsehood as all those who had so far been arrested in charge of subversive acts are leaders and activists of the BNP- Jamaat combine.
“You have to take responsibilities of all those killed over the past 67 days in the name of siege-hartal programmes. You can’t shift the responsibility of killings upon others. Stop killing people. Otherwise, you will be on the dock on charge of killing people,” he said pointing at Begum Khaleda Zia.
The Awami League (AL) leader said this while speaking as the chief guest at a public rally in the city.
Juba Mahila League (JML) organised the rally in front of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital protesting abduction and killing conspiracy against Prime Minister’s ICT (Information and Communication Technology) affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the United States.
JML president Nazma Akhter presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, state minister for ICT affairs Junaid Ahmed Palak, AL central working committee member Aminul Islam Amin, Dhaka City AL organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and JML general secretary Apu Ukil.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, “Tarique Rahman and Pakistani agent Jamaat have kept Begum Khaleda Zia under siege at her Gulshan office in the real sense of the term. She (Begum Zia) has no scope to put a step forward without the permission of Tarique-Jamaat.”
“People of Bangladesh have watched your face. Black conspiracy is hidden under your fair looking face. There is no scope for your escape as the people are so enraged now,” he added.
Criticising Begum Zia’s statement at her Friday’s press conference, the AL leader said, “In the press conference, she (Begum Zia) came up with blatant lies. The nation has failed to understand the purpose of her press conference. The nation hoped that Khaleda Zia would withdraw the siege-hartal programmes seeking apology. But with utter astonishment the nation learnt that she didn’t announce withdrawal of her programmes. Instead, she announced continuation of the same.”
Quamrul Islam said, “There is no scope for Khaleda Zia to take recourse to healthy politics as she has been maintaining links with militants. If she severs relations with the militants, they will kill her. The hands of law are long. It’s a matter of time to arrest Khaleda Zia. The beasts will be tried in the sacred soil of Bangladesh as people of the country can’t pardon them.”
Junaid Ahmed Palak said, “BNP was floated through conspiracies. There’s no change in their character as yet. As people rejected them, all the conspiracies of BNP failed. Right at this time, they have been hatching conspiracy to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy to foil the digital Bangladesh initiative.”
