UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Friday said their party will not budge from its demand for holding the national election under a non-party caretaker administration even if the government holds dialogue with them.
“The country’s people want a free and fair election under a non-party caretaker government. BNP won’t sacrifice its demand for caretaker government for engaging in a dialogue with
the government,” he said.
Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, came up with the remark while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of party fonder Ziaur Rahman with the newly elected committee members of Jatiyatabadi Railway Sramik and Karmachari Dal.
The BNP leader apparently made the comment following a newspaper report that BNP will go to election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ditching its caretaker government demand if the regime reaches an understating with the party over an early election through talks.
Justifying their demand for a non-party government, he said the national election will not be free and fair in the country under any party government as the political parties here do not have confidence in each other. “The Election Commission also works at the dictate of the government. So, BNP won’t join the election if it’s not overseen by a non-party administration.”
