No respite in Covid upsurge 39 deaths; 3,674 fresh cases

Bangladesh on Saturday witnessed the highest number of Covid deaths in a single day in more than three months.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) 39 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
This is the highest number of fatalities from the deadly diseases in the span of a day in more than three months. Earlier, on December 15 last year, 40 covid patients were died in a single day as a highest record.
Including the latest figure the total number of deaths reached at 8,869 while the death rate stands at 1.5 percent.
As per the DGHS data, at least 3,674 new infections were registered in the last 24 hours which taking the total number of people infected to 5,91,806.
The data also showed that the cases in a single day have remained above 3,500 for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.
It also said that the current positivity rate is 14.9 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 12.96 percent.
In the span, a total of 24,664 samples were tested across the country. As per the DGHS data, about 1,971 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the time span across the country.
With this, the total number of recoveries stands at 5,33,922 and the recovery rate at 90.22 percent.
Off the 39 deceased, 24 were male and 15 were female. Among them, 25 were above 60, 10 between 51-60, three were between 31-40, and one within 41-50 years old.
