Business will continue as usual says Islami Bank's new boss

The newly elected Chairman of Islami Bank Arastoo Khan ruled out the possibility to axe jobs of bank officials though there is widespread speculation in this regard.

“None of the bank official will lost his or her job. The new management has no plan to cut jobs for its staff,” the newly elected Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) Arastoo Khan said this while a view-exchange meeting with the journalists after taking over the charge as chairman.

The meeting was held at the Islami Bank Tower in the city on Sunday.

Arastoo Khan also claimed that the recent changes in the bank’s top management posts would not affect business and reputation of the bank.

“No negative impact on the bank’s business performance and reputation will be seen after changes in its top management. The bank, as usual, will pursue the main objectives and goals giving highest priority to customer service,” he added.

Arastoo Khan assured the clients that the bank’s trading transactions will continue in accordance with Islami Shariah law.

“The new management will ensure better serivce to the bank’s customers, maintaining fundamental principles of Islamic banking, no matter it brought changes in its top management,” he said.

‘Even, it will not spend money illegally under the cover of Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR),” he said, adding, “The bank will expand its CSR activities in education, health and humanity”.

“Transparency and accountibility will be ensured in all the CSR expenditures,” he said.

Responding to a question, Arastoo Khan said, the new management has no plan to axe jobs of bank officials because their dedication to customers have already been proven.

He claimed that Islami Bank had already gained faith of people of all regions though it is a Shariah based bank.

“Our service and dedication towards the customers have helped a lot in gaining the trust of the people,” he noted.

The newly elected IBBL chairman also informed the journalists that the bank would recruit more female employees regardless of their religious faith.

Vice-Chairman of the bank Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam Pervez, Executive Committee Chairman Major General (Retd) Engineer Abdul Matin, Chairman of the Audit Committee Md Zillur Rahman, Chairman of Risk Management Committee Md Abdul Mabud, PPM, Director Prof Dr Shahidul Alam, Acting Managing Director Mahbub-ul-Alam and senior executives were present in the press briefing.
