No progress in Gopibagh six murder case

Police on Monday claimed to have identified the motive behind the sensational six murder in city’s Gopibag but could not yet arrest any of the killers, despite lapse of three months since the time of the tragedy.
The murder occurred centering religious issue, DB police said. It blamed the involvement of the banned outfit Jamatul Mujahedeen of Bangladesh (JMB) activists in the killing.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victims have shifted their residence from Gopibagh to a different city area , which was not disclosed on security
ground. ‘Pir’ Faruk’s youngest son Abdullah Al Faruk talking to this correspondent said , ” We are doubtful whether the identity of the killers will be known at all. We are becoming disappointed over the progress of the investigation process of the case. We also suffer from a sense of insecurity as none of the criminals could yet to be arrested.”
Six people, including a local ‘Pir’ along with his banker son, were slaughtered by miscreants at their RK Mission Road, Gopibagh residence in the city on December 21 last.
Those killed were Lutfar Rahman Faruq, 60, a self-proclaimed pir , his son Sanwar Islam alias Monir, 30, a banker, and the saint’s four followers – Mujibur Rahman, 30, Russell, 25, and Shahin, 25, and Manju, 30.
The Pir had been arrested twice in the past for his controversial role .
 Faruk used to claim himself as Imam Mahadi or, at times, the chief officer of Imam Mahadi’s army. He used to practice religion in ‘ his own way’ with some of his followers, police said.
 Abdullah Al Faruk filed a murder case with the Wari police on the same day of the killing, accusing 12 unidentified persons. Later, the case was shifted to Detective Branch (DB) of police for investigation.
