UNB, Bagerhat :
The probe body formed to investigate the Mongla cement factory building collapse is yet to submit its report although 52 days have elapsed since the incident that left eight people dead.
The probe panel was supposed to come up with its report within seven working days after its constitution on March 13 this year, but it could not yet complete the probe.
“It’ll take two weeks more to place the probe report,” head of the committee and additional divisional commissioner of Khulna Mohammad Faruk Hossain told UNB.
“The investigation is now at the final stage. We’re preparing the report. It’ll be submitted to the divisional commissioner within the next two weeks,” he said.
On March 12, the roof of the under-construction cement factory of ‘Sena Kalyan Sangstha’ in Mongla port area collapsed, leaving eight people dead and some 40 others injured.
The Khulna divisional commissioner formed the nine-member probe committee the following day asking it to submit its report within the next seven working days.
Asked about the delay in completing the investigation, Faruk Hossain said since local and international firms are involved in the construction of the factory building, the recording of deposition of concerned and examination of designs and papers take a plenty of time.
He, however, said the committee started its work a day after its formation and recorded the deposition of some injured workers at various hospitals.
He said they have recorded the deposition of 33 injured workers and consultants of Chinese company CNBM International Engineering Ltd and Bangladeshi company ITCL, and some staff members of Sena Kalyan Sangstha.
Besides, the committee members visited the spot and sat in five meetings, he noted.
Meanwhile, sub-inspector of Mongla Police Station Manzur Elahi, also investigation officer of the case filed in connection with the incident, said their investigation is underway.
They have received the autopsy reports of the eight deceased workers, he said, adding, “We’re trying to arrest those involved in the building collapse.”
