No polls sans Khaleda’s release: BNP

Govt must quit, JS must be dissolved, EC have to be reconstituted, army must be deployed for holding credible polls: Fakhrul

BNP senior leaders at a mass rally in city on Friday said that no election would be held in the country keeping the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
“The people would not allow conducting any national polls without freeing Khaleda Zia. We will go to polls under free Khaleda Zia’s leadership,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while addressing a mass rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
A large number of leaders and activists of the BNP and its front and associate organisations took part in the protest rally demanding unconditional release and better treatment of jailed Khaleda Zia.

As part of the countrywide programme, BNP organised the rally in front of its central office in the city.
The protest rally, began at around 3:00 pm, was presided by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP Secretary General demanded to dissolve the Parliament and form a neutral government before the polls. He also demanded that the government must quit before the national polls.
He also called for deployment of Army in the election.
Mirza Fakhrul demanded that the Election Commission must be reconstituted before the national polls.  
He also called for unity among all political parties and individuals.
“Today, we need to be united against the oppressed government to restore democracy in the country. It is needed to defeat the misrule and to free the people from their grip,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Begum Khaleda Zia, a respected leader to all for her contribution to democracy and development of the country, has been sent to jail by a fabricated case.”
“Khaleda Zia is so sick that she could not walk to meet her relatives outside her jail room. But the ministers of this government said that we are doing politics with our party chief’s sickness,” he said.
The government fears from Khaleda Zia. For this, he said, they kept her in jail with the false case.
The BNP leader alleged that the government had destroyed everything, including democracy, economy and every institutions after taking state power by the one sided poll on January 5 in 2014.
“The government has destroyed banking sector. They are now destroying the Bangladesh Bank. The gold stored in the vault in the central bank now transformed into mixed metal,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain said, the people of the country have no trust on this government. So, the ruling party wants to hold another January 5 like polls. But people will not allow them to do so.
BNP Standing Committee Members Barrister Moudud Ahmed urged the party men to get prepared for any tough movement to realize their demands.
Mirza Abbas warned that no one will be allowed to hold the one sided elections.
BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Dr. Moin Khan, also addressed the occasion, among others. BNP Vice-Chairmen Selima Rahman, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain and Nitai Roy Chowdury, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Members Zainul Abdin Faruk, Abul Khair Bhuiyan and Aman Ullah Aman, Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka South City unit General Secretary Kazi Abul Bashar, BNP’s Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad and Assistant Office Secretary Belal Ahmed, Sechhasebak Dal President Shafiul Bari Babu and General Secretary Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan Jewel, among others, were present.
Earlier, leaders and activists of the party from different parts of Dhaka city and adjacent districts gathered at the venue from about 2:00 pm with processions and chanted various anti-government slogans.
Additional police forces were deployed around the rally venue.
