BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday said that the people would not accept any polls without the party’s Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
“If the government tries to hold next national polls keeping Khaleda Zia in jail, the people of Bangladesh would not accept that,” Dr. Mosharraf said while addressing a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
The BNP leader has expressed hope that the administration will give permission for their rally scheduled for March 12 in the city as Awami League has already been allowed to hold a mass rally on March 7.
“AL will hold the mass rally in the capital on March 7 and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has also been allowed to hold its rally the same day. We hope, BNP will also get permission for the rally on March 12,” said Dr.Mosharraf.
“Otherwise, we will understand that the government is running two systems in one country,” he said.
Earlier, BNP announced holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on March 12 demanding release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail. The party has already sent letters to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Public Works Department seeking permission for holding the rally.
Khaleda Zia landed in jail after getting conviction in a graft case on February 8 by a special court in Dhaka.
The BNP organized different programmes demanding her release from jail soon after her conviction.
