The government does not plan to raise prices of fuel oil anytime soon, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said. He said the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase did not discuss fuel price in its Thursday’s meeting.
“It really depends on the international market,” Muhith said. He said the committee would not take any steps to raise or decrease fuel oil prices unless the energy ministry sent a proposal.
“We will not initiate a move.” Thursday’s meeting approved a proposal to import 850,000 metric tonnes of furnace and gas oil over the next six months.
Muhith said decisions on hiking or reducing fuel prices were based on international prices.
The last time fuel prices were raised was in January last year.
Prices of petrol and octane went up by Tk 5 a litre while diesel and kerosene were hiked by Tk 7 per litre then.
