The ‘Taskforce’ to protect rivers on Sunday asked authorities concerned to relocate all industries responsible for the environment and water pollution and not to allow setting up of any new industry in eight megacities of the country.
“No permission will be given to set up any new industry at eight megacities across the country . . . This would help reduce environment and water pollution,” a spokesman said after a meeting at the shipping ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat here with Shipping Minister Shahajahan Khan in the chair.
The 37th meeting of the “Taskforce to protect river pollution and increasing navigability of rivers surrounding Dhaka and Karnaphuli in Chittagong” also put emphasis on establishing industries at different economic zones to get gas, electricity and other utility services and protect pollution.
The meeting was told that the Industries Ministry in the meantime undertook different steps to ensure fault-free central effluent treatment plant (CETP) at Savar to protect environment and water pollution there.
