Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed on Saturday warned that anyone threatening against the clearing of illegal structures from Karnaphuli River banks would face actions.
“The work speed will double if the concerned authority gets threat while removing illegal establishments,” he said while visiting the site in the afternoon.
Javed said: “I will not allow the drive to stop. It will be completed. We will implement our plans regarding the Karnaphuli River.” The minister said there was a cold storage among the illegal structures where several thousand tons of fish were preserved. “We don’t intend to harm the businessmen. It will affect the economy,” he added. Meanwhile, the first stage of the eviction drive that started on Monday has finished. About 230 illegal structures on 10 acres of land have been removed.
