Bangladesh government has decided to stop issuing on-arrival visas for Chinese nationals amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus.
The Foreign Ministry has informed the decision to the Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka.
“We are requesting Chinese nationals in Bangladesh not to visit China, especially over the next month while the global emergency is in place,” said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at a press briefing in his Ministry on Sunday.
“At the same time, we have requested the authorities not to recruit any Chinese national for ongoing projects in Bangladesh,” the Foreign Minister said. But the move does not bar Chinese nationals from applying for a Bangladeshi visa, he added.
The Minister said, “This is a temporary measure. Chinese nationals can still apply for a visa but they must submit a medical certificate along with the application.”
