No New Year celebrations will be allowed in open spaces in the capital in order to maintain the law and order,
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed said on Tuesday.
He also requested city dwellers, students and outsiders not to enter Gulshan-Banani and Dhaka University areas after 8pm on Wednesday.
Besides, no one will be allowed to enter Hatirjheel area after the period, he said while briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre onthe security measures taken on the eve of New Year on Tuesday.
The DMP has taken stringent security measures to avert any unpleasant incident on the 31st night (Wednesday night) when city dwellers will welcome the New Year 2015.
Benazir Ahmed said prior permission must be taken from the DMP for organising any programme to celebrate the New Year.
Special teams of Detective Branch and SWAT will be on duty in various strategic city points alongside regular policemen to ensure the security of the dwellers, he added The DMP boss requested the city dwellers not to explode any crackers and fireworks as well as not to drive cars and motorcycles rashly on the 31st night.
He also requested all to refrain from indulging in any indecent behaviour and unlawful activities on Wednesday night.
