Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has informed the national Parliament that no gold was imported in the country through legal means for commercial purpose in last five years.
The minister made the disclosure on Wednesday in response to a question tabled in the 10th parliament by MA Hannan MP.
He said that according to the existing Foreign Exchange Regulation Act -1947, there is an opportunity to import gold on a commercial basis with prior approval of Bangladesh Bank.
