The government has decided that launch passenger should carry their birth certificates or national identity cards (NID) mandatorily when they travel by launch. It will be executed during the upcoming Eid journey.
Sailing of speed boats and sand carrying bulkheads has been suspended at night. Besides, movement of sand carrying bulkheads and vessels has been suspended for five days at day time too ahead of Eid and the same post Eid period too.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in the Shipping Ministry with State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair on Sunday.
Among others, Secretary of the Shipping Ministry, Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, Chairman of Department of Shipping, owners of various launches, presidents of owners ‘associations and representatives of workers’ associations attended the meeting.
