No land of state-owned factories will be leased out or be sold off as new industries will be built there, said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday.
He made the remark while addressing an event at state-owned Atlas Bangladesh Limited office at Tongi, Gazipur.
The event was arranged marking the handover of over 562 motorbikes to the field-level activists of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) for strengthening the EPI activities. Health Minister Mohammad Nasim spoke on the occasion as the special guest.
Amu said though Bangabandhu protected the national interest nationalising all the factories during the post-liberation war period, the successive governments privatised the factories to serve the interests of vested quarters.
He said now an investment-friendly environment prevails in the country and entrepreneurs of the European and other developed countries are showing growing interest to invest here. The government is setting up new economic zones to create a congenial environment for investment, he added.
The Industries Minister said the government is committed to developing an environment-friendly industrialization process. As part of implementing the commitment, the government has set up a tannery estate with a central effluent treatment plant (CETP) at Savar.
“The government will be able to relocate Hazaribagh tanneries at any cost from the capital. With the relocation, the city dwellers will get rid of environment pollution, while tannery owners will be benefitted producing environment-friendly products,” Amu said.
The Health Minister said the government is working to improve health services, and the government has already distributed vehicles among upazila health officers and supplied ambulances for patients with a view to strengthening the health services.
Nasim directed the EPI activists to help improve the health services using the motorbikes properly.
Chaired by Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque, the programme was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Health Zahid Maleque, Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP and Managing Director of Atlas Bangladesh Ltd Engineer Md Abul Kashem, said a PID handout.
