18 murders in 3 decades: No killer awarded penalty

Atleast eighteen students of Chittagong University were killed during the last three decades in clashes among the student wings.
However, no killer was given punishment on the killing incidents rather they were seen to continue politics with muscle power.
Meanwhile, any probe report was not published yet though probe body was formed after every killing incident and were given deadline to scrutinize the matter.
Many in connection with the probe committees told The New Nation that as soon as the committee investigated into the matter, another killing incident took place .
Police sources said, most of the accused persons got release because of the absence of the witnessed.
In eleven months in the last year, two students were killed in BCL-Shibir and BCL-BCL turf war. Taposh Sarkar, an activist of Chhatra League was shot t dead in a factional gunfight between the two rival factions of Chhatra League on December 14 while another Mamun Hossain, a leader of Chhatra Shibir were chopped to death by the BCL men on January 12.
Following the first incident, the administration formed a three-member-probe committee headed by Dr Khan Tauhid Usman and directed the committee to submit probe report within two weeks.
 However, the authority couldn’t submit the report though three weeks have passed already.
 Besides, a faction of Chhatra League has already created pressure on the administration to withdraw the murder case and to free the arrested persons in Taposh killing.
Earlier, two Shibir men were gunned down in a fierce clash between Chhatra Leage and Chhatra Shibir on February 08, 2012 and no one was reported arrested in this connection. Besides, probe report is yet to publish in this connection.
 Sources said, the killing incident launched with the killing of Chhatra Moitree leader Faukuzzaman by shibir men on December 23, 1983 while teachers and students brought out rally. In this connection, no one got penalty.
Chhatra Leaue and Chhatra Shibir men were mostly involved in the killing incidents and because of the political interests the duo were not taken under punishment, the concerned family persons said.
Besides, the family members alleged that police did dilly- dally in lodging the case against the killers ,however police denied it.
Dr. Khan Tauhid Usman, who is provided the duty of investigating of 14 incidents told the New Nation, “we try to complete investigation in due time but for the absence of the views of the eyewitness, sometimes it becomes late adding that they already gave prove reports of many incidents.
Proctor, Siraj-ud-Daula said, the punishment to the killers is on the court and we help law enforcers on the incidents adding that administrative steps were taken against the accused persons.
