JnU Correspondent :
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Tuesday reiterated that no parliamentary election will be held in the country before 2019, and that too will be held under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Tofail Ahmed was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar marking the 39th National Mourning Day held at the central auditorium of the Jagannath University. JnU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman, Treasurer Professor Selim Bhuiyan, and DU senate and syndicate member SM Bahalul Maznun Chunnu were present as special guests.
Citing the observance of BNP Chairperson’s birthday on August 15, the Commerce Minister said, when the whole nation mourned the death of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on that day Khaleda Zia observed her birthday showing swaggering gait. This was undoubtedly unwanted.
Tofail Ahmed said that Khaleda Zia was against the 10th national election, but Sheikh Hasina had done it successfully. BNP had burnt police and general people to foil the election and to create a constitutional crisis, but failed.
Tofail Ahmed urged the BNP to wait for the next election scheduled to be held in 2019 and shun the path of destructive politics.
President of the JnU Teachers’ Association Professor Dr Sarker Ali Akkas presided over the programme, while Associate Professor of English Department Md Abdus Salam conducted it and Acting Proctor and General Secretay of JnU Dr Noor Mohammad gave a welcome speech.
Besides, teachers, students, employees of the university and JnU unit BCL President FM Shariful Islam, and General Secretary SM Sirajul Islam were also present, among others.
