Although seven months have passed since the final results of 33rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams were declared, the finalists have not yet been offered jobs.
The candidates are frustrated over the impasse. Some are saying they are in financial crisis, while others are saying they are going to surpass the minimum age for civil service appointment.
The public administration ministry said posting for 33rd BCS was underway but would not specify a date.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) declared the final results for the 33rd BCS on Nov 21 last year, recommending 8,529 candidates to be appointed to various cadre services. Atiqul Islam, who is waiting to be appointed to the education cadre, said, “No one is saying anything about our appointment. No appointment means no money.”
Public Administration Senior Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said the ministry was working on the posting of 33rd BCS candidates but would not say when this would be done.
On the other hand, the date for 35th BCS has not been declared either. The preliminary and written tests for 34th BCS have already been held. Although in the last few years, the date for the exam was declared within January – February, this year six months have passed but the date has not been announced.
Yasmin Sultana, who has been preparing for the 35th BCS for a long time, said she was about to pass the minimum age for the exam.
“I thought I’d be able to sit for the 36th as well. But now it won’t be possible,” she said.
“Some of my friends can’t even take part in the 35th because they’re older,” she added.
On Jan 30, then Public Administration Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder told our correspondent, 1,149 postings had been approved for the 35th BCS and a circular would be issued soon.
Public administration ministry officials said the delay in announcing the 35th BCS dates could be due to the change in exam structure.
