Senior Secretary of Public Administration Ministry Mozammel Haque Khan on Tuesday said the ministry had not got any instruction from the Prime Minister’s Office to issue any gazette notification on the abolition of the quota system in public service.
“The ministry will issue the gazette notification as soon as it receives order from the PMO about quota abolition. We cannot do anything without any
instruction,” he said. The secretary also said, “The issue of scrapping quota system in public service is under ‘active consideration’ of the government.”
“The issue of quota is under active consideration of the government. Whenever the Prime Minister gives a directive, it will be implemented,” he said.
If it is required, a committee will be formed, the secretary added.
“We have all-out preparations. We will take necessary steps as per the decision of the head of the government,” he said. Asked when the circular will be issued, the senior secretary said, “We have to wait until the PM issues the circular.”
Replying to another question about special quota for ethnic community and physically challenged candidates in recruitment for government jobs if quota system is abolished, he said, the Premier will definitely consider this issue.
About the government’s assurance of taking steps by May 7 to resolve the quota issue, Mozammel Haque said the students did not withdraw the movement even after the announcement of abolition.
