No installations in CRB, says Ctg Mayor

Chittagong City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has announced that no installation will be built in the CRB. CCC Mayor made the remarks while exchanging views with a delegation from the civil society, Chattogram , an organization fighting for the protection of the CRB, on Tuesday.
He said the CRB is a monument of cultural heritage as per the government notification. Not only hospitals but also brick-and-stone structures will not be allowed to be built here to the detriment of natural beauty. CCC’s statement is clear – ‘I will not allow nature to be destroyed’.
Expressing solidarity with the CRB protection movement, the Mayor said, “I will do whatever it takes to protect the CRB.” Wherever there is a place of remembrance of the liberation war, political and cultural heritage in the city, all measures will be taken to preserve it.
Chattogram Mayor said that the agitators could not be suppressed by any threat against the interests of Chattogram and said consequences of excess will not be good.
Chattogram University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shirin Akhter attended the meeting expressed solidarity with the CRB protection movement. Recalling Abdur Rob, the then elected GS former student leader of Chaksu, the first martyr of Chittagong University during the War of Liberation, the Vice-Chancellor said that the graves of many martyrs including Martyr Abdur Rob are preserved in the CRB. Building any commercial facility on this grave is an insult to the martyrs. We will not allow any installation in CRB, Mayor added.The delegation led by AQM Sirajul Islam,Civil Society Chittagong Co-Chairman including Member Secretary of the Citizens Committee Senior Lawyer Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Co-Chairman Political and Cultural Organizer Mofizur Rahman, , BFUJ Joint Secretary General Mohsin Kazi, Joint Member Secretary Rashed Hasan, Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, Chittagong Shilpakala Academy General Secretary Saiful Alam Babu, Swapan Majumder, journalist Asif Siraj, cultural activist Ahil Siraj, reciter Pranab Chowdhury, NAP leader Mithu Dasgupta etc. were present on the occasion.
