UNB, Dhaka :
Terming Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid’s remark on Dhaka University’s admission test system unfortunate, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Tuesday urged all concerned to refrain from any imprudent comment on the university.
“Dhaka University authorities never take admission tests to harass or make any student fail. Instead, the main aim of the authorities is to get admitted to the university the best students among the meritorious ones through scrutiny. Besides, the transparency of
admission system is felicitated by the people of the country,” Duta said in a statement. The statement was issued as the Education Minister said Dhaka University’s student selection process.
On Sunday, Nahid said, “The selection process for admission to the Dhaka University is faulty. That’s why a large number of students couldn’t obtain the minimum pass mark in the test.”
The DUTA statement, signed by its president Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and general secretary Prof Maksud Kamal said, “We think the quality of students is reflected on Dhaka University’s admission test results.”
It further said, “The Dhaka University is not an isolated island that it won’t be touched by the turpitude of national life. The Dhaka University has taken all possible steps to secure the admission test from the hands of admission forgery syndicate.”
Mentioning that the academic council finalises the admission process, the statement said that the teacher community would welcome any advice to develop the admission process further.
“We’re requesting all quarters not to make any imprudent comment about the country’s premier institution which is a pride of the nation,” it added.
The controversy over the Dhaka University admission test keeps on raging as only 9.55 percent participants had been able to attain the pass mark in its recently-held ‘Kha’ unit test for admission to first year honours under the 2014-15 academic session.
