Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal said no illiterate person would be available in Bangladesh after ten years.
“Only 17 percent of the total population in the country was literate 40 years ago, which, now, has gone up to 67 percent. I firmly believe there will be no illiterate person in Bangladesh after ten years,” he added.
The planning minister expressed his belief on Saturday while speaking at the silver jubilee ceremony of Dhaka Commerce College as the chief guest.
Referring to the government’s primary goal of bringing all eligible children at school, he said: “We’ve become successful in bringing all to school, and now the main challenges are to prevent drop-out and ensure quality of education. The government is working hard with all to attain the goals”.
Kamal told the students that “all of my dreams are pining on next generation. I believe that what we couldn’t do, the next generation will make it in reality”.
Former secretary of the government A F M Sarwar Kamal, founder of the college Professor Kazi M Nurul Islam Faruki and governing body member M Abu Saleh, among others, spoke on the occasion with governing body chairman Professor Dr Safiq Ahmed Siddique in the chair.
Programmes of the day started with a colorful rally, and later, a blood donation camp was arranged.
On the occasion of silver jubilee, Commerce College also honored 14 persons in 8 categories. Planning Minister received honor in people representative category.
