Staff Reporter :While the radical Islamic groups continue hacking one blogger to death after another, the law enforcers have yet to make any significant headway in solving any of the cases. They are not being able to trace the killers or the masterminds behind the killings. The latest murder in the series took place on Friday, when secular blogger Niladri Chatterjee alias Niloy was killed at his Goran residence in the capital by a group of four unidentified assailants.Police could not make any headway this time like the previous four cases even after getting instruction from the Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Meanwhile, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said that the organisation will help assist the investigation of the murder case. The detective branch (DB) of police claimed that the murder was committed by members of a terrorist group according to its pre-plan. They are hunting for the criminals following the primary evidence and statement of the witnesses, DB sources said. According to autopsy reports, blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy was hacked 14 times in a style similar in trait to the murders of other bloggers killed previously. Forensic experts say that the assailants hacked at him repeatedly to ensure his death. The autopsy on the body was conducted at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday morning. The body has eight deep wounds in the throat and four in hands, palms and fingers, DMCH’s Forensic Chief Habibuzzaman Chowdhury told The New Nation on Saturday. The body of the slain blogger was handed over to his paternal uncle Nirmol Chatterjee in yesterday noon after the autopsy. In the meanrime, the crimination of Niloy’s body was held at his village in Pirojpur district at night. The responsibility of the murder was claimed in advertisement style, by a group Ansar Al Islam, Al-Qaeda’s Bangladesh branch after the murder.Earlier, Niladri’s wife Asha Moni filed a case with Khilgaon Police Station against four unnamed persons on Friday night, said Md Nure Alam, Assistant Commissioner of DMP.In May, Niloy, posted a status in his Facebook account mentioning that two unidentified people were following him when he was returning home in a human-hauler (tempo). Though he had been at a police station to register a General Diary (GD) in this connection, police refused to do so. But he did not mention the name of police station where he had gone for filing GD.In this backdrop, a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegation against police that they had denied to register a GD when slain blogger Niloy had gone to the police station in May last. The committee, headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Motijheel Division Tareq Bin Rashid, was formed on Saturday. The other members of the committee are Assistant Commissioner (AC) Md Nur Alam and AC Kazi Farid Hossain.Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Division) of DMP Anwar Hossain said the committee was formed based on media reports that police refused to register Niloy’s GD.The committee will find out the police station where Niloy had gone for service and take action if anyone’s negligence of duty is found in this connection, the DC said.He also said that the miscreants had fled away by auto-rickshaw. They also changed dress in the vehicle. On the otherhand, Asha Moni, the wife of slain blogger, said four youths shouting ‘Nara-e-Takbir’ hacked Niladri Chatterjee Niloy to death before her. She said that she was at home during the incident.According to her, a youth, aged about 25, entered the flat saying he would like to rent it and that he had already spoken to the house’s owner.”He appeared to have sent text message to someone from his mobile phone,” she said.Moni said she informed her husband, who was working on his laptop in the bedroom, when the youth did not leave even after taking a look at the flat.”But several youths entered the house as soon as Niloy asked the youth to leave.”One of them with beard hit Niloy’s hand with a machete shouting ‘Nara-e-Takbir Allahu Akbar’,” she added.Moni said she pleaded with the assailants not to kill her husband but the attackers dragged her to the veranda and confined her there.Moni’s younger sister Ishrat Tanni, who was visiting them, was in the kitchen during the assault. They left after striking Niloy in the head and neck with sharp weapons. Moni said that one of the attackers was carrying a black pistol. She also said her husband’s laptop had been missing since the attack.Demanding trial of the killers, Moni said, “Such incidents happened earlier. But the killers were not punished. Had the culprits been punished I would not have lost my husband.”Niloy, who worked at an NGO, had rented the flat on the fourth floor of a building in the area two years back, identifying himself as a Muslim named Niloy Chowdhury. He used to stay with his wife Ashamoni and sister-in-law.He completed master’s in philosophy from Dhaka University and got married Moni two years ago against the wishes of both their families.Minister of Home, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that he was hopeful that the law enforcers will be able to detain the killers of blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy soon. “I have discussed the matter with the police IGP and other related personnel. We will catch the killers,” the minister said. The home minister also assured that the killer would be brought to justice this time. He said that multiple teams of law enforcing agencies are already working to find the killers.
