Killing of foreigners: No headway in probe yet

The investigators are yet to make any headway in the killing of two foreigners although the incidents have already created stir at home and abroad.
Unidentified assailants gunned down Italian citizen Cesare Tavella on September 28 and shot to death Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi last Saturday.
When contacted, Humayun Kabir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Rangpur Division, told The New Nation on Monday that they were trying their best to bring the perpetrators to book.
“We’re investigating every aspect of this crime to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible,” he said.
Humayun has been assigned to lead a probe team to unearth the mystery behind the killing of Japanese national.
“The probe team is working hard to trace those involved in the killing and bring them under trial. The issue is very sensitive so we cannot talk much before concluding the investigation,” he said, giving no further details.
“It is too early to come to a conclusion in the murder. But we’re hopeful of solving the mystery,” a senior Detective Branch (DB) official investigating the Tavella murder case told The New Nation on Monday.
He, however, said that the killings of the two foreigners were a part of the conspiracy against the country. A certain quarter has chosen the way to establish its existence and create instability in the country.
“We’re taking time to ensure a proper investigation which is necessary to identify the real culprits involved in the killings,” he said, adding that the DB had solved many ‘clueless’ incidents in the past. This time also it will be able to identify the killers and bring them to justice.
As the killings of two foreigners have created stir at home and abroad, the country’s top security and intelligence personnel visited the killing spot of in Rangpur on Monday.
They also talked to a cross section of people while visiting the spot.
