No gridlock on highways ahead of Eid, says Obaidul

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that there would be no traffic jam on highways across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“This year as we have taken a massive preparation, I can assure that there will be no traffic congestion on highways across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr,” he told journalists at a press briefing on Metro rail project at his Secretariat office in the city.
Quader also claimed that the country’s roads and highways have been made
 fit for vehicular movement to ensure smooth journey for homebound people ahead of the Eid.
“I’m roaming the highways to oversee the latest condition. The highway police and other law enforcement agencies will also be working on highways for smooth journey,” he said.
Besides, he said, more than one thousand volunteer rover scouts will be deployed in 15 spots on the highways to cooperate with the members of law enforcing agencies. The minister said some 450 BRTC buses will be added in the ‘Eid special service’ to ensure safe and smooth movement of homebound passengers.
