No government college is on the list of top 10 colleges in terms of the result in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations under Dhaka Board.
It is sad but not surprising because the teachers pay more attention to lobbying in the Shikkha Bhaban for suitable posting and promotion, involving with students’ politics and attending the coaching centres than taking care of their own students.
When asked, Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Taslima Begum declined to make any comment in this regard.
She, however, said that the government colleges have better educational facilities and stronger financial base. So, their results are supposed to be eye catching.
Shikkhak Oikya Parishad Chairman Principal Selim Bhuiyan said, the teachers of the government colleges think a little about the students to build their future., he said.
He said that Dhaka College was once the best college in the country. Whereas its position is regrettable in respect of HSC results.
Contrary, Rajuk Uttara Model College, a private institution, secured the top position among the top 10 colleges under Dhaka Board in this year’s HSC results.
Abul Kadir Mollah City College in Narsingdi and Adamjee Cantonment College in Dhaka secured the second and the third positions respectively, while the National Ideal School and College and the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Notre Dame College and Shamsul Haque College jointly became sixth,
Milestone College and Uttara came out jointly seventh and Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College earned eighth position. The ninth and 10th places have been captured by King’s College and Cambrian College both at Gulshan.
Enamul Haque, a guardian, told this correspondent, many a time talented students fail to shine as per expectation due to teachers’ negligence and apathy. The Shikkha Bhaban will do well if they evaluate the year-wise results of the government colleges and take action accordingly.
