Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on Wednesday said, there will be no gas crisis in the country from 2018 as supply may be increased by 37 percent.
The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) of 1000mmcfd will be added to national gas link in two phases by 2018 aiming to ensure adequate gas supply in the industries, said the adviser while addressing the business leaders at Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI’s) building yesterday.
The business leader urged the PM’s Energy Adviser to keep gas price stable in the greater interest of production based industries which help the business people make their annual plans.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi said, gas price will increase slightly next year guarding the industries’ interest.
MCCI President Nihad Kabir welcomed the guest in the function. Former Presidents of MCCI Laila Rahman Kabir,
Tapon Choudhury, Syed Nasim Monjur, Association of Bankers Bangladesh’s Anis A Khan and former President of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation’s Kamran T Rahman, among others, were present in the function.
The Petrobangla signed a Confidential Agreement (CA) with the RasGas after series of discussions on LNG import. On April 20, 2017, Petrobangla signed a contract with Summit Corporation for LNG re-gasification service from its facilities to be built in 18 months, sources said.
Now Petrobangla, the state-run oil, gas and mineral resources corporation, supplies approximately 2,750 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from domestic gas fields against a demand for at least 3,600 million cubic feet gas and the demand would be rose to 8,000 mmcfd in 2041, the sources added.
The RasGas is one of the world’s premier integrated LNG enterprises and has an enviable reputation for being a safe and reliable supplier of LNG that has transformed a regional resource into a key component of the global energy mix.
