The leaders of the Poribesh Bachaon Andolan (POBA) on Wednesday said that the government has not yet set up a ‘food-court’ and appointed a “food-monitor” in each district to check food adulteration though there is a High Court (HC) direction in this regard.
The High Court on June 1 in 2009 gave the government two years time to comply with the order. But so far no initiative has been taken by the government in this regard, said the POBA leaders to the media at its head office in the city yesterday. The POBA collected 108 fruit samples and 24 wheat and vermicelli samples from the city shops between September 7 and 23 instant and tested those in the POBA laboratory and found 25 to 87 percent formalin in those fruits and vermicelli. In response to a question, Abdus Sobhan said, the POBA also tested the samples through the machine used by the government and applying Cromotopid acid.
