Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has given strict instructions to the police officers to stop extortion during the transportation of sacrificial animals for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
He gave the message in a video conference with all the unit heads from the police headquarters on Thursday afternoon, AIG (media) Md Sohel Rana said in a media statement.
Benazir said the
movement of sacrificial animals on roads and waterways should be unimpeded. He also directed not to stop trucks or trawlers carrying sacrificial animals without any specific complaint.
He said: “Highway police and the concerned district police will set up camps if necessary to ensure the safety of the sacrificial animals and traders. In this case, we have to coordinate with the concerned unit.”
Benazir said: “We have to ensure that hygiene rules are maintained in the cattle markets. No one can enter the markets without a mask.”
He directed to maintain a normal traffic system to ensure smooth movement of people returning home on Eid holiday. No vehicle can be stopped, ahead of Eid, in the name of search without specific reasons.
The police chief said: “We need to increase surveillance so that train tickets are not sold in the black market. We also have to ensure that buses and other transports do not charge extra fares. Ferry traffic should be kept normal.”
The IGP said there is a risk of an increase in crimes due to the Covid-19 situation. He directed everyone concerned to increase patrol to prevent theft, robbery, and other crimes in residential and commercial areas.
