Commuters will be relieved from counting extended bus and minibus fares from September 1. Now passengers are paying 60 per cent more fares as per the government decision taken to check the spread of coronavirus.
The decision of paying extended bus fares will continue till August 31.
Public transports owners and workers took the decision at a meeting held at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
BRTA deputy director (Enforcement) Abdur Razzak said extended bus and minibus fares will remain functional till August 31 and passengers will pay the previous fares as usual from September 1.
“We will send a proposal in this regard to Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. The proposal will include few directions for approval including no seating gap of passengers, wearing masks and avoid of overcrowding,” said Abdur Razzak.
The government on May 31 gave permission for operating public transport on condition of following health guidelines.
