Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh has said that no more establishments would be allowed to build near the canal boundary of the capital city.
At the same time, the boundaries of the canal will be determined by measuring according to the records, mayor said.
DSCC Mayor visited the city’s Jirani Canal on Wednesday morning as part of a weekly regular visit.
At that time, he also inquired about the progress of the canal cleaning and recovery activities.
He warned against the builders of illegal installations on the banks of the canal.
The canals have been under occupation for a long time. According to the survey, we may not be able to vacate the entire canal. But we can make some space ensuring the better drainage system.
As a result, we are hopeful that we will be able to free the inhabitants of Dhaka from waterlogging problems, mayor Tapos added.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has also said that the canals of Dhaka North City will be rescued and boundary pillars will be installed after preserving them.
Mayor Atiqul Islam made the remarks after inspecting the Sutivola and Kadda canals in Dhaka North City Corporation’s 36th ward on Wednesday noon.
At the same time, he added every man will be evicted from illegal occupation regardless of his/her social and political identity.
Mayor Atiqul Islam said, the boundary pillars of canal have been discussed with the DC of Dhaka as there are boundary pillars in the river.
Boundaries should be demarcated on both sides of the canals. And there can be no more illegal installations within this boundary.
It is mentionable that many multi-storied buildings and establishments are being demolished on the bank of the Buriganga River everyday as part of eviction drive of BIWTA.
