The ongoing dialogue for the formation of the next Election Commission is marred not only by a deep divide on its process but also by concerns if the country is heading towards election hijacking and and cash distribution. For the change of government politics is redundant and gone? Election for change of government is not redundant alone. We also do not have political parties which cannot be bought off.
The major party in the opposition has no commitment for democracy or principle. There is no difference between it’s yes and no. In free election BNP will win vote for Awami League’s oppressive corrupt government. That is not a positive victory. The people want change of government be that of whatever kind. The real change does not lie in election. So the whole nation is in a bind.
That we achieved Bangladesh with outside help is at the root our crisis of freedom without democracy. Our leadership has been in whirlwind from the beginning. The lies had to continue and truth must be suppressed.
This government itself proved the Election Commission is unnecessary for them to win the election and remain in power. These groups fear revenge for their part in corruption
and reckless violation of human rights. A section of them are murderers for killing people in crossfire, secret disappearance and through torture in police custody.
Happily the long awaited International attention has turned to Bangladesh. Sanctions have been imposed on very high officials for their crimes. Foreign accounts of some plundered of public money have been sealed. We expect Canada to deal with the corrupt ones enjoying shelter and have built what is widely known as Begum Para of expensive houses.
President Abdul Hamid has been holding the dialogue since December 20 with political parties for the new Election Commission for no election. Till now the BNP’s position is not to take part in forming a proven rubber stamp Election Commission when last time openly police were used for casting the people’s vote in favour of the government.
The BNP and other parties knowingly collaborated in the election robbery. The BNP protested on the unsaid plea that the government did not keep its promise of giving them the desired number of seats in the parliament.
