Local birds declining: No effective measures taken yet to save biodiversity

The number of local birds is declining faster as no effective measure was taken to save them. Further, the continuous application of chemical fertilizer and pesticides are leading the birds and other species towards death every moment.
The trend has been hampering the good environment. But the law enforcers are almost ignoring the law of the state as per the environmental issues, said the environmentalists.
Talking to a number of environmentalists said, a section of bird poachers are catching the birds for human consumption in different areas of the district. The number of the hunters is not less than 350 in the district. They have been hunting wild pigeon, dove, stork, cranes and some other local species as and foreign ones like Shamukhbhanga, Siberian stork etc. for human consumption.
The poachers also active in hunting parrot, moina, tia, other wild birds for selling them to the amateur (soukhin) and luxurious bird nursers or rearers against a handsome money.
Bakul Mia, a poacher of Kaliganj in Jhenaidah when contacted during his hunting in a Saikupa village said, he was aware about hunting of birds, while he was undone as it was only means before him. He gained the work as inheridatory ones, Bakul said.
Masud Ahmed Sanju, an , said the environmentalists said, each and every bird hunter is more or less aware on the existing law against birds and other natural resources killing or hunting. But they are encouraged when the law enforcers do not apply the existing state law against them.
The poachers along with the birds in their cages move around the town before the nose of the administration and sought the selling of the natural lives in public.
A section of people have been purchasing some of them for consumption and others for nursing them. But no body asks them to do so, Sanju said.
Deputy Director of the department of agriculture extension in Jhenaidah Shah Mohammad Akramul Haque when contacted said, the catching of local and foreign birds has become a direct threat to our environment as the poultry litre is most essential for soil fertility.
Further, the birds sitting on the branches of trees and other ways catch huge harmful pests and insects, save the crop damage by pests and insects, the deputy director said.
