UNB, Mymensingh :
Reiterating that there will be no compromise with anyone when it comes to the fair election, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Tuesday hoped all the political parties will participate in the next parliamentary polls.
“We won’t compromise when it comes to arranging a fair election. The Election Commission will take all necessary measures so that all the parties can join the next election,” he said while addressing a function at the Town Hall here marking the inauguration of the countrywide voter list updating programme.
The CEC also said the participation of all the parties in the polls helps create an election-friendly environment to a large extent.
At the event, the CEC along with four election commissioners opened the data collection of possible voters.
Any citizen who was born on or before January 1, 2000 is eligible to get enlisted as a voter.
Unlike in 2016, enumerators will have to make door-to-door visits till August 9 next for data collection this time.
About the electoral roll, Huda said an authentic voter list is a prerequisite to holding a free and fair election.
Warning the field-level officials and employees, he said no anomaly will be tolerated during the voter list updating programme.
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said money power and muscle power are the main barriers to the arrangement of fair election.
