Though there is a strong resentment among the party leaders deprived of posts in its newly-formed executive committee, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday hinted that there is no chance for bringing any change in the new body.
“There’s no question of bringing any change in the committee as it has already been announced,” he said.
Talking to reporters at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Fakhrul further said, “Those who think they’ve been deprived of posts, they should wait until the party’s next national council.”
As on Sunday, many enthusiastic leaders and activists-who got posts in the new committees-along with their supporters thronged the party’s central office on Monday and greeted each other.
Earlier on Saturday, the party announced its full-fledged executive and standing committees and chairperson’s advisory council nearly four and a half months after its national council held on March 19.
As his attention was drawn to the media reports about antipathy of some leaders left out in the new committee, Fakhrul said their chairperson has formed the full-fledged committee as per the responsibility bestowed upon her by the party councillors. “We’ll carry out our political programmes with this committee over the next three years.” He said whenever any big party forms committees, it is seen some competent and able leaders get deprived of posts as it is almost impossible to accommodate hundreds of capable leaders in the committee. “So, our chairperson couldn’t accommodate all the deserving leaders in the committee.”
Sought his comment about the allegation that their chairperson’s special assistant Shimul Biswas and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi have influence about the formation of the committee, the BNP leader said this is a false campaign to malign BNP.
He alleged that journalists are now busy finding out only BNP’s mistakes, though they are silent about that of the ruling party. “It’ s probably happening due to the government’s pressure as now the country lacks democracy.” Fakhrul said they believe their chairperson will be able to overcome the political crisis and ‘restore’ democracy in the country with support and active role of the current executive committee.
