Police are still searching for answers to questions such as who had ordered the murder of former police officer Babul Aktar’s wife Mahmuda Akhtar Mitu in Chittagong a year ago and why.
Investigating officer of the case, Chittagong Metropolitan Detective Branch Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman says the investigation is under way and there is ‘good progress’.
Police arrested six people within a month of the murder near GEC Intersection on June 5 last year. Two other suspects were killed in a so-called gunfight with police.
But Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, who police say masterminded the murder, and ‘Kalu’, who allegedly took part in the murder directly, are yet to be caught, according to the law enforcers.
“We are investigating the case. It’s a continuous process,” said detective Kamruzzaman.
Musa’s wife Panna Akhtar, however, claimed at a press conference a month after the murder that her husband was picked up by a police team led by the then OC of Port Police Station Mohiuddin Selim on June 22 that year.
