Not even a single BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami backed councillor candidates were able to secure victory in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls held on Wednesday.
All the 55 winning candidates in the councilor posts – for total 41 general and 14 reserved CCC wards – are of the ruling Awami League and rebel candidates.
In the last CCC polls, held in 2015, about nine councillor candidates backed by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami had won.
However, in Wednesday’s city elections, out of the 55 general and reserved councillor posts, the candidate for Ward No 18 won unopposed.
