No bar to MP Rana’s arrest

UNB, Dhaka :The Supreme Court on Thursday paved the path for the arrest of Awami League MP from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Rana and his brother Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti in the freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court scrapped an HC order that on July 14 had asked the ruling party MP and his brother to surrender before the trial court by two weeks and ordered the police not to arrest or harass them during the period.A three-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the State. With the court order, now there is no bar to the arrest of Amanur Rahman Rana, MP, and his brother, said deputy attorney general Ekramul Haque Tutul.On July 14, the High Court ordered the two brothers to surrender before the lower court by two weeks and asked the law enforcers not to arrest or harass them during the period.The chamber judge of the Appellate Division on July 21 stayed the HC order after hearing an appeal filed by the State. Faruk Ahmed, an AL senior leader and a freedom fighter, was shot to death in the district town of Tangail on January 18, 2013. Victim’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a murder case against some unidentified people on January 21 in this connection.
