The High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail for three months to suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation MA Mannan in a corruption case.
Passing the order, an HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice JBM Hassan also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to
explain why he would not be given permanent bail.
The rule is returnable within four weeks.
The suspended Gazipur Mayor was arrested in a corruption case on June 19 last.
Mannan’s lawyer Masud Rana said now there is no legal bar to his release.
Court sources said a case was filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) with Jaydebpur Police Station on June 13 last for his alleged corruption related to the use of Relief and Poverty fund of the city corporation.
Mannan, also an advisor to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, was suspended two times from the mayoral post of Gazipur City Corporation.
