Syed Shemul Parvez :
The National River Conservation Commission (NRCC) has said there is no legal bar to evict the establishments of Mayisha Power Plant and Arisha Economic Zone which were built grabbing the land of Turag and Buriganga rivers bank in the capital.
The commission with the assistance of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) will go to evict the establishments occupied by MP Aslamul Haque any day with the help of concerned agencies.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the River Commission labelled the statement of ruling party MP Aslamul Haque as ‘unwelcome’ and ‘anti-state’.
Earlier MP Aslamul issued statements against several government agencies including the River Commission, the Shipping Ministry and the BIWTA.
When the river commission conducted an eviction drive at the Mayisha Power Plant and Arisha Economic Zone, which occupied around 54 acres of land of Turag and Buriganga rivers on March 3 and 4 this year, MP Aslamul had prevented it demanding a joint survey issue.
However, MP Aslamul Haque called the agencies as opponents and rejected the report again.
Even he also lamented at the BIWTA, Ministry of Shipping and River Commission at the press conference.
The concerned agencies, however, termed such remarks of an MP about government agencies as ‘sad and undesirable’.
River Commission Chairman Dr. Mujibur Rahman said, ‘I think it should be restrained as I saw the behavior of MP Aslamul Haque after the occupation;
This was an anti-state statement and such behavior exposed personality of a man like him. It was also an abuse of position to talk against the government organizations, he added.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq said that BIWTA is not opponent to someone. We have been given the responsibility by the government. So we are compelled to implement it, he added.
The chairman of the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC) further said that there is no obstacle from the court and the government in the case of eviction. There are also allegations of river occupation against MP Aslam in the Mirpur part of Turag.
