No army in GCC, KCC polls : EC

Army will not be deployed during Gazipur and Khulna city corporation polls, said Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.
The EC secretary said it to the media at Election Commission office on Thursday.
He said, generally army is not deployed during the local government polls. This time also won’t be different. However, Police, RAB, BGB, Ansar will stay on the field.
“The garment factories at Gazipur will remain shut. For this, the EC is trying to organize a view exchange programme with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMEA) and the Textile Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (BGMEA).
EC will take a decision after a view exchange meeting with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). EC will also hold a view exchange meeting with the journalists as to how they will perform their professional duties.
Replying the query, Helal Uddin said, every body is expecting a free and fair election at both Gazipur and Khulna City polls.
Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari and other election commssioners were present at the meeting. RAB, BGB, Ansar and other senior officials of different forces were present.
It is mentionable that recently BNP has demanded deployment of army at Gazipur and Khulna City Corporation polls.
