News Desk :
The government has decided not to conduct any annual examinations for primary school students and its equivalent Ebtedayee exam this year.
The students will be promoted to next classes as per evaluation of the school authorities concerned.
Public Relations Officer of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry Mahbub Rahman Tuhin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Monday. A gazette notification has been issued in this regard.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on October 26.
Earlier, the ministry sent a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office, seeking approval to cancel exams this year.
Referring to the prime minister’s directives, Alamgir Mohammed Monsurul Alam, director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, said: “Considering the situation, students can be assessed by increasing the number of classes or through class work, home work or worksheet.”
Last year, the government was forced to cancel Primary Education Completion Examination and its equivalent Ebtedayee Education Completion exam.
Currently, the concerned educational institutions are trying to mitigate the academic losses following the “Accelerated remedial learning plan (ARLP)” methods and have set plans to continue academic classes up to December 23 under this method.
Meanwhile, 90% of education deficits have been met in urban areas and 20-50% in rural areas following ARLP method, said officials.
